What we do
- New softeners connected to an existing inlet and outlet loop
- Old softeners removed and replaced
- Bypass valve fitted so the unit can be isolated for service
- Drain and overflow lines routed to the existing drain point
- Control head programmed with the hardness from the city’s report
- Salt loaded and a first regeneration run and leak-checked
In Alhambra homes
The City of Alhambra’s 2025 water quality report lists total hardness at 240 ppm, ranging from 160 to 290, and notes that “Some households choose to install water softeners to reduce scaling and improve appliance efficiency.” The U.S. Geological Survey calls anything over 180 mg/L very hard. The report also points out that hardness is a quality issue, not a safety one; a softener is about scale, spots and appliance life.

Send a photo of the loop or old softener, the nearest drain and outlet, and the model you plan to install. Our number for photos is (626) 684-3505, and the price comes back before any work is booked.
Before we install
We confirm the loop’s inlet and outlet, a working shutoff, a drain within reach of the drain line, and an existing outlet near the control head. If any piece is missing, we tell you before you buy so the install day goes smoothly.
Setting it up
With the water off, the softener is set level and connected with a bypass valve and flexible connectors. The drain line is clamped and routed with an air gap, the brine overflow is connected, and the water comes back on slowly so we can watch each joint.
Programming for Alhambra water
We enter the hardness from the city’s report, set the regeneration for a time when no one is using water, add salt, and run the first cycle. We show you how to read the control and check the salt level.
Choosing a size
Softener capacity should suit your household’s water use and the hardness. With hard water like Alhambra’s, an undersized unit regenerates very often and uses more salt. Send us your household size and the models you are considering, and we will tell you which fits the loop.
Replacing an old softener
If the existing unit is past repair, we disconnect it, drain the brine tank, and carry it out. The new unit goes onto the same loop, and we replace a brittle bypass or cracked connectors while the water is off. If your current softener only has a stuck regeneration or a salt bridge, we tell you, since that can be a repair instead.
What goes to other trades
We install on a loop that already exists. Adding a new loop to the main line, re-piping, or adding an outlet goes to a plumber or electrician, and we say so in our first reply.
