In Alhambra homes
About 77 percent of Alhambra’s homes were built before 1980, according to a city housing report. Many front doors on Craftsman and Spanish Revival houses have thick or shaped casing, so the storm door has to be sized to the brick mold and mounted without hiding the trim that gives the entry its character.

Send a photo of the doorway from outside, the width inside the trim, and the storm door you’re considering. Our number for photos is (310) 628-9399, and the price comes back before any work is booked.
Measure before you buy
Storm doors are sold by opening size. We measure inside the trim at three heights and tell you which size and hinge side to order.
Older frames
Frames that have shifted are shimmed so the door closes evenly from top to bottom.
Closers wear first
A door that slams or won’t stay open usually needs a new closer or hold-open washer, not a new door.
Glass or screen
Most storm doors take interchangeable panels. We show you how to swap them when the season changes.
Frame rot
If the jamb or sill is rotted, it needs repair before a storm door can be mounted. Small rot spots we can patch; bigger repairs go to a carpenter.
In older Alhambra houses this job often turns up next to door threshold replacement, weatherstripping and door sweeps, lock and smart lock installation and window screen repair, so mention those when you text and we can price them together.

Storm door installation questions from Alhambra homeowners
Before you text: our notes on santa ana wind prep, for anyone booking storm door installation.
Can you put a storm door on a Craftsman front door?
Usually. We check the trim depth first, since the door needs a flat surface to mount on.
What’s the difference between a storm door and a security screen door?
A storm door has glass and screen panels for weather; a security door is a steel grille for protection. Most openings take one or the other.
How do I adjust a storm door closer?
Turn the screw at the end of the closer to change the speed. If it still slams, the closer is worn and should be replaced.

How much does a storm door install cost?
It depends on the door and the frame. Text a photo for a free estimate.
