In Alhambra homes
Many Alhambra backyards have small wood decks and steps added to older homes, and with about 77 percent of houses built before 1980 per a city housing report, those additions are often decades old too. Sun, sprinklers and potted plants are hard on the boards, while the framing below is often still fine, which makes board-by-board repair practical.

What we check first
Before replacing boards we look underneath at joists, ledger and posts. Soft or rotted framing is a structural repair for a deck builder, and we tell you before touching the boards.

Matching boards
New wood is brighter than weathered boards. Composite colors are discontinued over time. We find the closest match and suggest where a swap shows least.
Screws instead of nails
Nails work loose as wood swells and dries. Coated deck screws hold boards tight and stop the squeak.
Railings
A wobbly rail is worth fixing quickly. We add through-bolts or blocking where the post attaches, and refer anything that needs new framing.
Finishing
New boards and cut ends get sealer or stain so they weather along with the rest.
In older Alhambra houses this job often turns up next to pressure washing, fence and gate repair, wood rot repair and general home repairs, so mention those when you text and we can price them together.

Deck board repair questions from Alhambra homeowners
Can you replace just a few deck boards?
Yes, if the framing underneath is sound. We match the boards as closely as we can.

Why are my deck nails popping up?
Wood swells and shrinks with weather and pushes nails out. We replace them with deck screws.

How much does it cost to replace deck boards?
It depends on how many boards and the material. Send photos for a free estimate before anything is booked.
